Learner goals and capabilities

Welcome to the University of Victoria INSPIRE Level UP, powered by Riipen! This innovative program connects employers with Canadian post-secondary students for 60-hour paid projects. Students receive $1,400 CAD from Riipen upon successful project completion.

In the Inspire program, students will work in teams of 2 -5 to ideate, prototype, and implement a STEM solution to a local community problem. Students will leverage frequent interactions with industry mentors, their community partners, and use Design Thinking to assist them throughout the development process. Additionally, students are given ample networking opportunities where they will present their work to the local community and receive feedback, and participate in discussions.

Project Examples

Requirements

In the past students have developed software to assist those facing acquired brain injuries with the Victoria Brain Injury Society, or developed a design of a rainwater catchment system to help communities impacted by drought etc. For a full list of project examples please visit www.inspireuvic.org.

The main goal of the project should be to inspire students about the power of engineering via community good. Students are also going to be exposed to a wide variety of community issues, thus we also aim to educate students further about the communityโ€™s most pressing issues.
